- A re-elected Cook Labor Government will commit $2 million towards facility upgrades at Beasley Park in Leeming
- Investment will support rapid growth of female participation in AFL at a local level with accessible change rooms included in the design
- Community led project by local clubs to deliver a modern facility for the whole community
The Cook Labor Government is committing $2 million to expand and modernise the Beasley Park Oval facilities.
The significant initiative backs a community led project to deliver universal change rooms to reflect the rapid growth of female participants in recent years.
The project will also include facilities for umpires, people with disabilities, bathrooms, improved spectator viewing areas and storage upgrades.
The Beasley Park Oval and clubroom is the home of the popular Bull Creek Leeming Football Club, which has produced many successful AFL and AFLW players for Fremantle.
The existing facilities were built in the 1980s and require much needed upgrades for female and male players.
The Junior and Senior clubs now have more than 160 female participants playing sport at the clubs in 2024. Since 2022 the junior club has experienced a 300% increase in the number of junior female participants.
The oval and facilities are also home to a junior athletics club, Probus club, Bridge Club, and act as a community hall for residents to access.
The WA Labor election commitment of a $2 million contribution to support the project was made following a visit to the club by the Premier Roger Cook, alongside WA Labor candidate for Jandakot Stephen Pratt, and Member for Riverton Dr Jags Krishnan.
Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:
“It is great to be able to support important community led projects like this one, that we know will have a lasting impact and support everyone being able to participate in community sport.
“Our candidate for Jandakot, Stephen Pratt, and the Member for Riverton, Dr Jags Krishnan, have both advocated strongly on behalf of the clubs leading this project to bring this commitment into fruition.”
Comments attributed to Stephen Pratt, Candidate for Jandakot:
“Leeming is a fantastic community which I want to make an even better place to live, work and raise a family.
“This is a significant $2 million election commitment to support modernising the Beasley Park’s clubroom facilities for the whole community.
“Importantly, the upgrades include universal change rooms to reflect the rapid growth of female athletes at the mighty Bull Creek Leeming Football Club.
“I have spoken regularly in State Parliament about the importance of sporting clubs to promote health and wellbeing, social inclusion and stronger communities.
Comments attributed to Dr Jags Krishnan, Member for Riverton:
“The Bullcreek Leeming Footy Club is a fantastic family footy club here in our electorate, and I am delighted that these essential upgrades are now able to come to fruition.
“It is a privilege representing Bull Creek and Leeming, and in delivering this commitment. The Cook Labor Government is ensuring that the next generation of players, regardless of gender, have every opportunity to succeed and be part of this outstanding footy club.
“I wholeheartedly welcome this fantastic announcement and congratulate WA Labor Candidate for Jandakot, my good friend Stephen Pratt, on securing this vital funding – a great community initiative that is cooler than the other side of the pillow.
